Want a Metal Free Filling? Your Lake Orion Dentist Gives You Options

fillings, Dr. Brad Greenfield, your Lake Orion dentist provides the following post.

Three Types of Tooth-Colored Fillings to Choose From

  • Composite resin. The most common and readily available type of metal-free material is composite rein. A mixture between plastic and powdered glass proves quite effective for filling cavities. Furthermore, your Lake Orion dentist can use resin to create veneers and bond teeth. Plus, with the big move to abolish the use of amalgam fillings, many dental insurance companies have begun to cover this alternative type of filling material.
  • Ceramics. Another word for porcelain is ceramic material. Porcelain is known for its ability to mimic natural teeth to a tee. While many people utilize ceramics for veneers or crowns, many patients were pleasantly surprised to know the material can also fill-in cavities.
With proper at-home care, you won’t have to worry about longevity. On average, a ceramic filling lasts more than seven years. Which means you have lots of time to enjoy your beautiful smile.
  • Glass Ionomer. This white filling has become quite popular in most recent years. The glass ionomer is made from two materials: acrylic and specific type of powdered glass called fluoroaluminosilicate. Together, these elements create a strong and resilient bond that serves a number of purposes. Aside from tooth-colored fillings, glass ionomer can cement inlays and onlays. Additionally, the glass ionomer have been used to fill-in root canals to reinforce the weakened tooth. For patients—both adults and children alike—who have more severe cases of tooth decay, a glass ionomer is the way to go.
