You may have noticed that we are proud to offer metal-free dentistry for safe dental care. However, you may wonder what on earth avoiding metal has to do with keeping your teeth and body safe. After all, you may even have a metal filling in your mouth or have friends and family members with metal crowns. If you’re interested in learning a bit more about why we feel so passionately about offering treatments without metal, please take a look at the following information. And rest easy – if you currently have metal restorations that you would like replaced, we can accommodate your needs. Learn more:
About Holistic Dental Care
We offer holistic, metal-free dentistry at our practice. To accomplish this, we use biocompatible materials when it comes to treatments like fillings and crowns. Holistic means that we take the health of not only your tooth or your mouth – but also your whole body – into account, since your body’s systems are all connected, functioning as a single unit. In addition, biocompatible means that the material will not harm or damage your living tissues – it is “compatible” with your teeth, gums, and the other tissues in your body. Many of the metals that have been used in dentistry (but that we do not use), such as the mercury-containing metal in amalgam fillings, are not considered biocompatible, often because of potential toxicity.
Metal-Free Options
Metal fillings and crowns? This is not something you will see as an option at our practice. Instead, we offer metal-free dentistry when it comes to these restorations. Learn more about the details:
- Tooth-Colored Fillings: A tooth-colored filling is free of metal and composed of composite, a synthetic acrylic-resin material. Unlike metal, we can customize the color of this material to your tooth. This means that your filling will be safe and will not harm the appearance of your tooth.
- CEREC Crowns: A CEREC crown is composed in a single visit out of a solid block of ceramic, a biocompatible, metal-free material. It offers a translucent, lifelike quality that mimics the appearance of your natural tooth.
