How do you feel about the appearance of your teeth? For many people, misshapen teeth, stains, and other issues make them hesitant to show off their smiles. However, we can use cosmetic dentistry to restore the appearance of the teeth. We have two unique procedures that can both change the shape of the tooth. Do you need cosmetic bonding or veneers?
Cosmetic Bonding
Using metal-free composite resin, cosmetic bonding allows the dentist to:
- Repair chipped teeth
- Mask teeth stains
- Close gaps between teeth
- Reshape malformed/damaged teeth
The procedure starts with the doctor preparing the tooth, removing any decay and possibly etching the tooth surface. After shading the composite material the doctor places it in several layers, curing the resin with a special light. As the material cures the doctor will sculpt the tooth as necessary.
Dental Veneers
With this option the doctor can address chipped teeth as well as a whole host of other issues, including:
- Repairing broken/fractured teeth
- Masking teeth stains
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Correcting the appearance of minor misalignment
- Lengthening worn down teeth
Instead of a composite resin, the doctor will create a custom-made restoration. The doctor prepares the teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel and taking impressions. Using the impressions, a dental lab creates the veneers. When the patient returns to the office the doctor places the restoration with a bonding agent.
Choose the Best Option for Your Smile
While both procedures can repair a tooth there are a number of differences. First, veneers look more natural and often work best for teeth near the front of the mouth. However, bonding only takes one visit and is often a more cost-effective option.
