Do you want your smile to look its best before you start your summer vacation? Then you should talk to our team about our cosmetic treatment options, which can reshape smiles and mask common imperfections. In today’s blog, your Lake Orion, MI, dentist looks at our approach to cosmetic dentistry.
Our Initial Cosmetic Consultation
To start, we want to talk to you about the concerns you have about your smile’s appearance. Our team will then take a close look at your smile with our advanced imaging systems, so we can identify the factors behind your cosmetic concerns and plan treatment tailored to your smile. We take a holistic approach using metal-free materials that can bond with your smile and offer a lifelike appearance, and also offer safe care for patients of all ages. Cosmetic dentistry can help you feel confident in your smile again!
Two Professional Teeth Whitening Treatments
If you have unsightly teeth stains, we have professional teeth whitening options that offer more dramatic results and long-lasting results too. You don’t need to settle for store-bought strips and toothpastes. With our in-office whitening option, we will use a gel activated with a special light to break up and remove stains in about an hour. This is an excellent choice if you need results before a big event, such as a graduation, first date, or job interview.
For more substantial stains, we can provide an at-home whitening kit. You stop by long enough for us to create a set of plastic trays custom-fitted for your smile. We then send you home with these trays and several plastic syringes of bleaching gel. Each day, you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for a specified amount of time, brightening your smile by multiple shades. The process takes about one to two weeks, and your teeth could be eight shades brighter! The trays and remaining gel are then yours to use as needed for touch-ups in the months to come.
Dental Bonding
We can also address more than just teeth stains. For example, our team can use dental bonding to address issues with the shape of your smile too. This employs the same composite resin as our tooth-colored fillings, which can be shaded to blend with your smile. When we apply this material to the tooth, we can correct minor damage, such as chips or cracks, and lengthen structure worn down by bruxism (teeth grinding), We can fill gaps between teeth, reshape malformed teeth, and also mask permanent teeth stains that may otherwise resist teeth whitening. The procedure only takes one visit to complete, as we clean the tooth, apply the material, and shape the tooth as the material cures beneath a special light. The last step is to polish it for a brighter appearance.
Cosmetic Contouring
In the same visit as the bonding procedure, or separate one, we can also contour the teeth. The contouring means we gently sand and buff away small portions of outer structure to offer a more attractive appearance. The process can smooth out pits, grooves, and rough patches in the surfaces. Our team can also correct misshapen or overly large teeth, minor chips, and sharp or pointed portions of your teeth.
Porcelain Veneers
With porcelain veneers, we can offer a smile makeover in two visits. Veneers are very thin shells of porcelain that we attach to the front of your teeth. This is the same material we use to make crowns and bridges, and this is lifelike in appearance and very durable. Each shell is custom-made for your smile and shaded to blend with the rest of your teeth. When we place veneers, we repair damage, correct misshapen teeth, mask teeth stains, and correct gaps between teeth. We then lengthen worn down structures and even correct the appearance of minor misalignment, so you have an even looking smile without the need for braces or aligners. We can also mask permanent teeth stains!
Gum Contouring
With gum contouring, our team will address smiles that display too much gum tissue. With dental lasers, we will trim away the excess tissues and reshape the gum line, so you have a more attractive smile. The process takes one visit, and lasers are so comfortable you rarely need anesthesia, and the area heals quickly too.
