Tooth loss, even a minor case, could lead to major problems with the health of your smile, and could also impact the function and beauty of your smile too. We can help tackle minor tooth loss with a dental bridge, one made from strong and holistic materials. In today’s blog, your Lake Orion, MI, dentist talks about our porcelain bridges.
Missing Teeth and Poor Oral Health
People could suffer from tooth loss for a number of reasons. For some, this could be due to an injury to the face or jaw. For others, missing teeth could be the result of poor oral health. Untreated cavities and infection could lead to tooth loss or the tooth needing extraction to avoid the spread of infection. The most common factor behind adult tooth loss is periodontitis, the late stage of gum disease that destroys the connective tissues between the teeth and gums. When you lose natural teeth, this could lead to an increased risk of misalignment, TMJ disorder, and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could have issues eating your favorite dishes and speaking clearly, as well. But we can help with a porcelain bridge.
The Benefits of Porcelain
The material we use is very strong. Porcelain can absorb daily bite forces and pressures with ease, and the material can be shaded to blend with the smile. Which means the results will look natural! Since porcelain contains no metal, this is a safe and biocompatible material, one that is perfect for all ages. We also use the same material to create crowns and even our cosmetic dental veneers.
Creating and Placing a Dental Bridge
To begin the tooth replacement process, our team will numb the teeth on each side of the gap and then remove structure from them. These are known as abutment teeth. Our team will then take detailed digital images and measurements of the teeth and the gap from multiple angles. We use these images and measurements in a lab setting to design and craft your prosthetic. When the prosthetic is ready, we will connect the crown portions of it to the abutment teeth, which secures your new teeth firmly in place. With proper care and attention, your new bridge can last for years to come, 10 to 15 in many cases.
