Dental misalignment can lead to issues with the appearance of your smile, and also cause complications for the overall oral health and function of your bite too. But with the SureSmile system, our team can use clear aligners instead of braces to correct uneven smiles. In today’s blog, your Lake Orion, MI, dentist talks about our SureSmile solution!
The Causes and Risks of Misalignment
Why do we end up with crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth? Dental misalignment could occur due to factors like thumb sucking in childhood, or the premature loss of baby teeth in childhood. Issues with the shape of the jaw and the eruption of the teeth could be factors, as could the arrival of wisdom teeth. Losing teeth in your teen and adult years could also alter your alignment. Without treatment, dental misalignment can make thorough brushing and flossing difficult, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. The strain on your jaw joints could lead to TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also simply feel embarrassed about your appearance! But we can help with a cosmetic alternative to braces, the SureSmile system!
The SureSmile System
With this treatment option, we will carefully examine your smile and take detailed digital images and impressions of your bite from multiple angles. In a lab setting, we will use the information to design and fabricate your series of aligners from a BPA-free plastic material. These will be nearly invisible when worn, and will fit comfortably too! The treatment process involves you wearing a set of the aligners daily for about 20 to 23 hours a day. You wear each set like this for about two weeks, and then upgrade to the next in the series until you finally have an even and beautiful smile!
The Benefits of Clear Orthodontics
First, the aligners are practically invisible when worn, which is something our teen and adult patients appreciate. They fit comfortably and can be removed before meals, so you don’t have to alter your diet or avoid certain foods. Being removable also means that brushing and flossing is easier too, so you lower the risk of cavities, gum disease, and stained teeth during the treatment process.
