Treating Advanced Tooth Loss With Full Dentures

September 9, 2025

Our last blog discussed treating complex cases of tooth loss with a set of partial dentures. But what happens if you have lost most or all of your natural teeth? In these scenarios, you need a full denture. In today’s blog, your Lake Orion, MI, dentist talks about treating advanced tooth loss with full dentures.

The Impact of a Weakened Smile

When you lose most of your teeth, this could severely limit your meal options. You not only are deprived of your favorite dishes, but many essential nutrients too. You may also find yourself with difficulties speaking clearly. In addition, you may feel self-conscious about your appearance, which could impact your social life and overall quality of life. But our team can help store function and beauty to your smile with a complete set of custom-made dentures!

Creating a Dental Prosthetic

To begin, we will numb the areas with remaining teeth and gently extract them. We then take detailed images and impressions of your bite, which we use in a lab setting to design and craft your custom prosthetic. With a full set, you will have a complete row of new ceramic teeth set in an acrylic base. The ceramic teeth can be shaded for a natural appearance, and have the ability to handle daily bite forces and pressures. The base will look like gum tissue.

Supporting Your Full Dentures

Suction or the use of a special adhesives will help secure your full denture in place. On average, they tend to last about 5 to 10 years, requiring replacement as the jaw ridge changes shape. You will need to remove them at night for soaking and cleaning. These will restore your ability to eat a larger variety of foods and to feel more confident in your appearance.

If you have any questions about how we will take on severe or total tooth loss with our custom full prosthetic, or if you have major tooth loss that needs attention, then contact our team. We would love to help you with your journey to a full smile. For minor tooth loss, we can place a custom bridge, and partials can address more complex cases. Whether you have one missing tooth or all of them, we can help restore function, health, and beauty to your smile.
