How’s your brushing? How would you say your spouse’s brushing is going? What about the kids? If you would like to think that you’re doing quite a stellar job keeping everyone’s oral health and dental hygiene on track but you’re not absolutely sure, we think some questions from our practice might help you out. Take stock of how everyone is doing in some key areas of care and you can decide whether you need to “brush up” in a few areas or determine that, in fact, everyone’s smile efforts are spot on! (Of course, we would also love to see you and your family soon!).
Are You All Brushing Twice A Day?
Is the whole family brushing twice a day (for two minutes per session)? Are you sure? If you are occasionally missing a morning or evening dental hygiene session, you may dismiss this as “okay” because you’re too tired or rushed. Unfortunately, a missed session isn’t good news! It can lead to a higher chance of decay and other issues that stem from leaving plaque on teeth (that may become tartar). If you’re having trouble with time, try out sticking to a daily schedule and it may work wonders.
Do You Brush All Of Those Smile Surfaces?
Do you and your family brush all of the surfaces of your teeth that you can reach? You may want to pay closer attention to your own brushing. You may also want to take a look at the way your children are brushing. Don’t forget that during dental hygiene, you need to brush the fronts, sides, backs, chewing surfaces, etc. of each tooth. Whatever your toothbrush can touch should be cleaned (and this includes the tissue at your gumline).
Are You Sneaking Snacks At Bedtime?
Snacking after nightly dental hygiene can only lead to consequences! Everyone can have water but food or other beverages? Skip them!
