What to Expect From Veneers: Q&A

February 4, 2015

Have you been catching glimpses of your smile in the mirror and find that you don’t feel satisfied with what you see? Perhaps you wish your smile looked more uniform or that you could close the small spaces between your teeth. Or, maybe you are dealing with discoloration, minor chipping, and awkward tooth shape. While many patients find themselves worrying that their aesthetic concerns are too complex or too numerous for cosmetic treatment, we beg to differ. Porcelain veneers provide patients with an exceptional wealth of benefits that may suit your needs. Wondering what you can expect from this treatment? Look ahead:

Your Questions (And Accompanying Answers) About Veneers

Question: What are veneers?

Answer: Veneers are shells composed of super-thin porcelain layers. The layers are translucent and, when combined, mimic the appearance of your natural tooth.

Question: What do veneers do?

Answer: Porcelain veneers offer you a cosmetic treatment that camouflages problems and improves the appearance of your smile. With veneers you may cover cracks and chips and discoloration, whiten and brighten your smile, improve the length and shape of your teeth, and even fill spaces between your teeth.

Question: How do we decide what the veneers will look like?

Answer: During your first visit, we will take impressions of your teeth – this is the model we will use to ensure your veneers are a wonderful fit. We will discuss what you want to change about your smile and agree upon your preferences for the appearance of your improved teeth.

Question: How many visits does it take for me to receive veneers?

Answer: You will visit us only two or three times.

Question: Will they cover my entire tooth?

Answer: No. Porcelain veneers, unlike crowns, will not cover your entire tooth. Each veneer will cover the visible part of your tooth that shows when you smile.
