Are Your Teeth As White As You Want Them To Be?

Stains happen. If your diet consists of a lot of food and drinks that cause them, like red wine, coffee, or tea, you’ll begin to get them over time. If you smoke, too, you should stop. It will be better for your overall health, and it will help reduce discoloration. Stains can occur outside of a diet, as well. Sometimes genetics plays a role, or age. Even if you keep up with your twice-daily brushing, your smile may not shine as much as you would like it to. The good thing is that your Lake Orion, MI, dentist can help with a professional teeth-whitening treatment

I Want Those Pearly Whites!

Whitening your teeth is an easy process, and it is something that can be done in our office or at your home. Whatever your schedule allows, we will accommodate. For example, if you want to get them done quickly, our in-office treatment may be the choice for you. It will take only about an hour. However, if you have more time, we can offer you custom-designed whitening trays that you can take home with you. They contain bleach, and it takes almost 10 days to complete the treatment. You just have to wear the trays and bleaching agent for one or two hours daily.

I am Putting Bleach On My Teeth?

Hydrogen peroxide or carbamide are the two types of bleaches often used in the treatment. They break up stains into small pieces, which reduces color concentration, making your teeth brighter. The bleach is safe. Still, not every patient will benefit from it. For example, if you had an accident that hurt a tooth, causing it to change color, it will not be effective. The same if you take certain medications that change the shade of your teeth. Patients with crowns, fillings, or veneers won’t see those changed, either.

I Want To Keep My Smile Shining!

The best way to keep your smile bright and healthy is to maintain good oral health habits. It should not surprise you to learn that brushing twice a day, for at a minimum of two minutes each time, with a toothpaste containing fluoride is a great way to help keep your teeth white and healthy. You should also floss before you go to bed each night. Doing these things will help keep oral bacteria from forming, which can cause all sorts of things, from plaque buildup to cavities to discoloration.
