We want to help children enjoy good oral health, so they can avoid issues like tooth decay or major dental misalignment. Which is why we want to see your kids for a checkup and cleaning very six months starting at around age two! At your Lake Orion, MI, family dentist, we provide children’s dentistry.
Kids Checkups and Cleanings
When we see your children for a dental exam, we will take a close look at their smiles with digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. Our team wants to make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy, identifying concerns in the early stages, so we can provide treatment to prevent issues like cavities from becoming infections and tooth loss. We also watch for gingivitis, and for concerns that could impact how baby teeth fall out and permanent teeth arrive, limiting the risk of misalignment in the process. In the same visit, we will also clean their teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup, lowering the risk of cavities, bad breath, teeth stains, and gingivitis as a result.
Fluoride Treatments and Dental Sealants
Our team also offers preventive treatments to help lower the risk of tooth decay from forming in their smiles. During each checkup visit we will apply fluoride to the teeth to strengthen the outer enamel and lower the risk of erosion and cavities. Many kids also have trouble reaching the rear teeth when they brush and floss, which leaves these portions of the smile vulnerable to tooth decay and infection. But with dental sealants, we can coat these rear teeth in an acrylic material, which prevents food and drink particles from being trapped between them. This lowers the risk of cavities significantly, and these layers can stay in place for up to two years! With both, application takes seconds and kids just need to avoid food and drink for about 30 minutes as they cure completely.
Better Habits at Home
We also want to talk to your children about better brushing and flossing habits at home, and how they can choose healthier snacks and drinks to help avoid the onset of tooth decay or dental infection. With the right information, your kids can lower their risk of tooth decay during the school year! If you have any questions about our approach to children’s dentistry, then contact our team today to learn more. We want your kids to smile with confidence all year long!
