A dental checkup protects smiles and helps us catch the issues that could threaten your teeth in the early stages. But when do you need one, and do they help the whole family? In today’s blog, Lake Orion Family Dentistry talks about how we help smiles with a routine dental exam and what the process involves!
Your Whole Family Needs a Dental Exam
A dental exam protects smiles of all ages, and is necessary every six months. The issues that could cause discomfort and even threaten the stability of your teeth, such as serious decay, infection, or gum disease, do not form overnight and take months to develop. With a visit every six months, we have a greater likelihood of catching these concerns early and then treating them before they cause pain and tooth loss.
This also helps kids too, not only protecting their oral health, but helping them understand the how and why of caring for their smiles, both at home and with visits to the dentist. They will be less likely to have dental anxiety as adults, and more likely to continue caring for their smiles!
A Holistic and Digital Approach
When it comes to your dental exam, we take a holistic approach using the latest advances in digital imaging. For example, with digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, we can look beneath the gums and into the teeth, and carefully examine the surfaces, all using 90% less radiation. These images will be available on chairside monitors right away, so we can walk you through the diagnostic process and provide ones with better accuracy and precision. We continue the holistic approach using metal-free dental work to address issues we uncover, such as cavities and gum disease, using custom fillings, crowns, and more. You deserve a safe and gentle way to address your concerns and rebuild your smile, and help your whole family maintain good oral health!
Cleaning Your Teeth
We don’t just look at your smile and diagnose potential concerns during your visit. We also clean your teeth! A dental cleaning involves our team gently and comfortably removing all harmful plaque and tartar from the teeth. We do so with an ultrasonic scaling device, which emits gentle vibrations to remove plaque and tartar. We then follow this with a manual pick to extract any stubborn portions of tartar. We then polish the teeth to brighten them and limit the ability for buildup to occur before we see you again!
