Removing Teeth Stains With Professional Whitening

June 23, 2022

Do you have discoloration that impacts the beauty of your smile? If so, then you may benefit from professional treatment to brighten your smile. With our teeth whitening options, we could offer smiles several shades brighter! In today’s blog, your Lake Orion, MI, dentist talks about how we create bright and stunning smiles.

The Causes of Your Teeth Stains

Why do our teeth end up stained anyway? Multiple factors could be the cause. For example, poor oral hygiene and a diet high in sugar and starch could encourage plaque buildup, and the buildups in turn makes discoloration more visible. In addition, beverages with dark pigments like soda, red wine, tea, and coffee could stain smiles. Other causes include the use of tobacco products. Before we recommend a teeth whitening procedure, our team will take a close look at your smile to identify the factors behind your discoloration and to recommend the most attractive treatment option.

Two Options for Brighter Smiles

Which options do we provide? Well, if you need results quickly, we could offer an in-office option that brightens teeth by multiple shades in only one to two hours. We will apply a protective covering to your lips and gums, and then spread a bleaching gel across your teeth. A special light will then be used to brighten the teeth and remove discoloration. For more serious cases and to prevent tooth sensitivity, we could also provide an at-home option. With this selection, our team will send you home with a set of custom plastic trays and a bleaching gel. The trays will be filled with gel and worn for about 30 to 45 minutes a day, or overnight in some cases. The trays ensure the gel isn’t diluted and offers even results across your teeth. For some, smiles could be eight shades brighter after one to two weeks. The leftover gel and the plastic trays are then yours to keep for touch-ups down the road.

If you have any questions about teeth whitening, or if you would like to make an appointment, then contact our team today to learn more. Remember, if you have permanent discoloration, the kind that forms beneath the enamel and may not respond to teeth whitening treatments, we could mask them in one visit with dental bonding, or even use lifelike porcelain veneers to make them less visible. We want to help you obtain a bright smile that inspires confined and leaves you never hesitating to show off your smile!
