With cosmetic dentistry, we offer treatment options that are designed to help smiles look their best and inspire confidence in our patients. From teeth whitening to custom veneers, we could even makeover your smile! In today’s blog, your Lake Orion, MI, dentist talks about our approach to holistic cosmetic dentistry.
Starting with a Cosmetic Consultation
To find out how cosmetic dentistry can help you smile, you need to start with a consultation with our team. During this visit, we will talk to you about your hopes for your smile, and also conduct a detailed examination with digital x-ray and intraoral camera technology. We want to assess the cause and severity of your cosmetic imperfections, so we can plan treatment in detail. With cosmetic dentistry, we can tackle the issues that impact the appearance of your smile. At the same time, these procedures could also help improve the health and function of your smile too.
Two Teeth Whitening Options
Our team offers two different teeth whitening treatments to brighten your smile, often by as many as eight shades. The in-office treatment only takes one visit to complete, and can offer results quickly. The process involves our team placing a protective covering over the lips and gums, and then applying a powerful bleaching gel onto the surfaces of the teeth. We then activate the gel with a special light, which brightens your smile by several shades. We could even repeat the process as needed in the same visit.
Our take-home option can brighten smiles by up to eight shades and take on more severe stains. The process involves an initial office visit, during which we will take impressions of your bite and use them to create a set of plastic trays. We send these trays home with you, along with multiple plastic syringes of a powerful bleaching gel. You then fill the trays with gel and wear them daily for the set amount of time recommended, usually an hour. After one to two weeks, you could see major results.
Bonding and Contouring
Our team can also take on issues with the shape of your teeth. With dental bonding, we use the same composite resin employed as part of our lifelike fillings. This is shaded to blend with your tooth, and can be applied in one visit to mask permanent teeth stains, fill gaps and black triangle spaces between teeth, lengthen worn down teeth, and correct minor chips and cracks.
Contouring can also be done in one visit. Instead of adding material to the tooth, we will gently sand and buff the tooth to address esthetic imperfections. For example, we can smooth out grooves, pits, and rough patches in the surfaces of the tooth. We can correct the appearance of a chip, and even dull sharp, jagged, or pointed portions of a tooth. Our team can correct misshapen or overly large teeth too.
Gum Contouring
Did you know that we can also address cosmetic issues with the appearance of your gums? If you show off too much gum when you smile, this could make teeth appear short or uneven. With laser technology, our team can gently remove the excess tissues and reshape the gum line in the process to ensure better smile esthetics and proper symmetry in the gums. The process takes one visit and rarely requires the use of anesthesia, as lasers can target areas with precision and comfort.
Porcelain Veneers
For a smile makeover with a single treatment option, we could offer one or more porcelain veneers. These are very thin restorations that are made from porcelain and shaded to blend with the smile. Once we attach them to the front facing teeth, they instantly change the shape and color, transforming your smile. We can address misshapen teeth, repair minor damage, mask stains or gaps, and even correct the appearance of minor misalignment, so you have a straighter looking smile without the need for braces or aligners.
