General Checkups Promote Healthy Living

Do you know what age people should start visiting the dentist regularly?

Everyone over the age of four should visit the dentist for a professional hygiene appointment twice each year. Our gentle hygienists will inspect your gums for periodontal disease, which is the leading cause of tooth loss among American adults. The hygienists are specially trained to detect, deter, and treat gum disease.

While we are equipped and more than happy to help you beat this serious disease, we would rather help you achieve and maintain quality oral health so that you never have to worry about developing gum disease and other oral health conditions.

Celebrate the Earth and Your Dental Health with Holistic Dentistry

Today is Earth Day, so I hope you are spending your day outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather and appreciating the environment!

While today is the perfect excuse to consider how your daily activities impact the environment, there are things you can do throughout the entire year to minimize the harm being done to our planet.

As a dentist in Lake Orion, Michigan, I can help you do this with something called holistic dentistry. Holistic dentistry is the practice of using biocompatible materials and conservative procedures that in the best interest of the patient’s health.

Seven Simple Steps to a Better Smile

Believe it or not, having quality oral health is not hard to achieve, yet the benefits are endless. Your mouth is often referred to as the window to your body, so the healthier your mouth is, the healthier your body is. Follow these seven simple steps to keep your mouth healthy.

1. Brush regularly. Brushing thoroughly and regularly has a huge impact on your oral health. Brushing removes food particles that bacteria feed on, cleanses your teeth, and freshens you breath. Be sure to brush with fluoride toothpaste to strengthen and protect your teeth.

2. Floss daily. Flossing is one of the best things you can do for your teeth and gums, but most people floss irregularly or not at all. Flossing removes bacteria from between your teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach. I recommend flossing once a day, but be sure to floss before bed if you can only do it once daily.

3. Visit your dentist. I can’t stress enough how important going to the dentist is. Come to Lake Orion Family Dentistry at least twice a year for thorough dental cleaning and exams. I can spot early signs of gum disease and help prevent you from getting other kinds of serious health conditions.

Soft-Tissue Laser Treatment for a Speedy, Comfortable Recovery

As a family and holistic dentist, oral surgery is not a topic that I like to bring up to my patients. For many people, oral surgery causes feelings of intimidation and nervousness.

I make it my priority to keep you calm and comfortable when you’re in my office. That’s why I have taken courses and invested in the most recent technology to bring soft-tissue laser dentistry to Lake Orion Family Dentistry.

This state-of-the-art laser can eliminate bacterial infection between your teeth and gums for periodontal therapy that promotes quick reattachment of gum tissue. I also use this laser therapy for biopsies, disinfecting, and treating cold sores.
